Karmelo Anthony, 19, received a 35-year prison term for the murder of Austin Metcalf, who was killed during an altercation at a Frisco Independent School District stadium on April 2, 2025. The incident occurred under a tent in the bleachers during a track and field competition, with witnesses stating the conflict arose over Anthony, then 17, being present at Metcalf’s school tent during rain.

Jurors at the Collin County Courthouse in McKinney deliberated for three hours before returning a guilty verdict. Prosecutors characterized the act as unjustified murder, while the defense claimed self-defense. During the sentencing phase, Metcalf’s parents delivered emotional statements describing their grief as rage. Anthony’s mother testified, asking for mercy, though the judge noted Anthony waived his right to testify.

The jury also considered manslaughter, which carries a maximum of 20 years, and the state allowed consideration of sudden passion. Judge John Roach had imposed a gag order and barred electronics during the trial due to the case's high profile. Anthony was remanded to sheriff custody following the announcement.
