A recent analysis of official state lottery records has identified Frisco as the top Texas city for total prize money won on July 17, the date designated as National Lottery Day. The study, conducted by Casino.org using Freedom of Information requests and data spanning 2021 through 2025, tracked the locations of significant lottery and scratch-off wins on this specific mid-summer date.
Frisco ranked as the fifth luckiest city in the United States and the number one in Texas for total prize sums on July 17, with residents winning a combined $1.033 million. A significant portion of this total originated from a single location: a Circle K store at 12626 El Dorado Parkway. This specific outlet was named the luckiest store in the nation for a single July 17 win after selling a ticket that secured a $1 million jackpot on July 17, 2023.
Other Texas communities also recorded substantial single-day wins. Residents in Katy, Roma, and Cleveland each secured $1 million jackpots on July 17, placing them high on the national prize rankings. When examining the volume of wins rather than the total dollar amount, Houston led the state with 77 winning tickets sold on this date over the five-year period. San Antonio followed with 74 wins, while Dallas and Austin tied with 48 each.
On a broader scale, Texas established itself as a major lottery destination. The state ranked as the second luckiest in the country for total prize money won on July 17, totaling $6.32 million. It also placed third nationally for the number of winning tickets sold on that date, with 990 tickets.
Nationally, Florida ranked as the top state for both total prize money ($10.92 million) and winning tickets sold (2,195). In terms of cities, Danvers, Massachusetts, secured the title of the luckiest U.S. city by total prize volume, boasting $2.6 million in wins, largely due to a single $2.6 million jackpot ticket sold at the Danvers Village Food Shop.
