The City of Frisco confirmed that two mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) this week. In response, the city’s third-party contractor will conduct ground spraying overnight starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, through 5 a.m. on Sunday morning.
A second round of spraying is scheduled for Sunday night, Sept. 13, ending at 5 a.m. on Monday morning, weather and wind permitting.
The treatment areas include the Frisco Avalon, Frisco Avalon North, Frisco Springs, and Meadow Hill Estates neighborhoods. Additional spraying will occur in Edgestone at Legacy, Kingswood Village, Quail Meadow Village, and Stewart Creek Estates. Residents can view specific locations on the maps provided by the city.
These two new detections bring the total number of positive mosquito pools in Frisco to 12 for the year. The city maintains a GIS Mosquito Dashboard to track current and historical positive pool locations. As of this announcement, no human cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in Frisco in 2026.
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) recommends residents follow the “Wear, Apply and Remove” protocol to prevent mosquito bites. This includes wearing long sleeves and pants during dawn and dusk, using insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus, and removing standing water from bird baths, gutters, and plant saucers. Mosquitoes that carry WNV breed in stagnant water.
