A former assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, Jared Nuness, has been sanctioned by the NCAA after admitting to placing approximately 3,400 bets totaling around $38,000 on professional and college sports. This resolution follows an investigation triggered by a third-party sports wagering monitoring system that flagged Nuness in November 2025.

Baylor conducted an internal investigation and subsequently reported its findings to the NCAA in December 2025, leading to a joint investigation. In February 2026, Nuness acknowledged to the NCAA that he violated its rules by betting on professional sports through two online sportsbooks.

He also admitted to allowing his minor son access to these betting accounts, which resulted in the son placing three bets on NCAA Division I men's basketball games amounting to $170.

The NCAA's report clarified that none of the bets involved Baylor University or its student-athletes. Nuness accepted full responsibility for his betting activities, and both he and the NCAA enforcement staff agreed to classify the case as a Level II-Standard violation.

Baylor Athletics released a statement confirming its cooperation with the NCAA throughout the investigation process. The statement, attributed to spokesman Brent Ingram, noted that compliance education continues within the athletic department, including ongoing work with ProhiBet.

Nuness, who left Baylor's coaching staff in December 2025 citing personal issues, is subject to a two-year show-cause order. This order mandates that he complete meaningful sports betting education and provide similar education to his colleagues. Additionally, he faces a 10 percent suspension from all athletically related activities, which equates to a three-game suspension, along with a public reprimand and censure.
