Southern Methodist University (SMU) has announced the appointment of Derek Gossler as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Generation. This move is part of the university's strategy to bolster its competitiveness in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), where revenue generation plays a crucial role in college athletics.

Gossler brings over 15 years of experience in fundraising and commercial strategy, having most recently served as Senior Associate A.D. for Development and Chief Revenue Officer at the University of Wyoming. There, he notably increased cash and pledges through the Cowboy Joe Club and achieved record levels in ticket revenue and premium seating.

Before his tenure at Wyoming, Gossler was at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he helped secure five consecutive years of record fundraising. His previous experience includes significant contributions at Arizona State University, where he played a key role in raising $86 million for a major campaign and launching the men's hockey program through substantial donor support.

With SMU's ongoing efforts to elevate its athletic programs nationally, Gossler's hiring reflects a commitment to enhancing revenue generation as the Mustangs transition into the ACC. Specific plans and initiatives for revenue generation at SMU have not yet been disclosed.
