The U.S. Postal Service is proposing a price increase for mailing letters, which would take effect on July 12, pending approval from federal regulators. This change includes a rise in the cost of a First-Class Forever stamp from 78 cents to 82 cents. Additionally, the price for a metered one-ounce letter would go up from 74 cents to 78 cents. Domestic postcards would see a hike from 61 cents to 65 cents, while international postcards and one-ounce international letters would each increase from $1.70 to $1.75. The fee for each additional ounce on a single-piece letter will remain at 29 cents.

The Postal Service stated that these increases are necessary to combat a significant financial crisis and rising operational costs. The agency operates without tax funding and relies on postage sales and services for its financial needs. However, these proposed rates are not yet final and require review by the Postal Regulatory Commission before implementation.

Frisco residents and businesses would be affected by these higher rates in July, along with mailers across the country. This adjustment continues a trend of postage increases as the Postal Service aims to stabilize its finances through a long-term restructuring plan.

Frisco residents and businesses would pay the higher rates in July, as would mailers nationwide.
