Prescott and Lamb Finish the Job as the Cowboys Beat Washington 37-20

Dak Prescott's most productive connection got the Cowboys started on Sunday, and it closed the deal, too.

Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb connected for the first touchdown and the last one in a 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders at AT&T Stadium. The final score, a 24-yard catch by Lamb in the fourth quarter, was the 249th touchdown pass of Prescott's career and moved him past Tony Romo's franchise record of 248, according to The Associated Press.

For the team that works out of The Star in Frisco, it was the response it needed. Dallas had lost its opener 28-20 at the New York Giants a week earlier. The win evened the Cowboys at 1-1.

A connection with history

Lamb finished with eight catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns. His first, a 3-yard catch, opened the scoring. His second came after Washington had cut the lead to 30-20 with about nine minutes to go, capping an 11-play drive.

The AP reported that Lamb has caught 37 touchdown passes from Prescott, more than any other player, and that he gave his quarterback the record ball after the play.

"That made me emotional," Prescott said, according to the AP.

Prescott completed 26 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Tight end Jake Ferguson caught the other two, from 10 and 12 yards.

A complete afternoon

The Cowboys did it without a turnover. Their defense forced the one that decided the game: early in the third quarter, rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham knocked the ball loose on a screen pass, Dee Winters recovered inside the Washington 20, and Ferguson scored two plays later for a 27-13 lead.

Kicker Brandon Aubrey made all three of his field goals, from 25, 44 and 60 yards, and all four extra points for 13 points.

Dallas converted 7 of 11 third downs. Washington gained more yards, 389 to 332, and ran for 182, but it could not keep pace with an offense that cashed in its chances.

Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels left at the end of the first half with a dislocated left elbow. Coach Dan Quinn said imaging showed no fracture, and Marcus Mariota played the rest of the game.
