Frisco is turning the opening of its new downtown spaces into a five-night run of free events at the 4th Street Plaza, 8802 4th St., starting Tuesday.

The city is billing the series as the Rail District Celebration, marking the new plaza and the five-story parking garage that now serves downtown. Each listing on the city calendar points visitors to that garage for parking.

Tuesday, Oct. 13

The main night runs from 6 to 9 p.m. A ribbon cutting at the plaza stage opens it at 6, followed by live music and performances from 6:30 p.m. The featured act is Cherry Bomb, a Texas tribute band covering women rock artists from the 1970s through the 1990s. A drone show over the Rail District is scheduled for 8 p.m.

At 7 p.m., the separately ticketed "Plated: A Chef's Table on Main" seats diners at an outdoor community table stretching from 5th Street to North County Road, organized with the Merchants on Main to mark the reopening of Main Street and the plaza's opening. Plates were $50 with a nonalcoholic drink, and reservations closed Sunday night.

The city's listing says two restaurants, Simply Thai and La Suprema, dropped out because of scheduling conflicts.

The rest of the week

  • Wednesday, Oct. 14, 7 to 8 p.m.: The Frisco Improv Players give a free, family-friendly show.
  • Thursday, Oct. 15: Glow in the Dark Yoga Night on the plaza lawn, with a live DJ. Check-in starts at 7 p.m. and the class runs 7:30 to 8:30. It is free and needs no advance registration.
  • Friday, Oct. 16, 7 to 9 p.m.: Plaza Live! with the Patrick Casey Band, free.
  • Saturday, Oct. 17, 4 to 7 p.m.: A free hands-on art activity for all ages and abilities, titled From This Ground and listed in partnership with Ktchn28, with live music and shopping at Rail District businesses.

Next on Main Street

The city's next big downtown draw is the Community Parade on Saturday, Nov. 14. It steps off at 10 a.m. at 1st and Main streets and heads east to North County Road. Groups that want to march can register at FriscoParade.com.
