The Frisco Discovery Center on Dallas Parkway has a busy arts week ahead, starting with a new gallery show Wednesday and a comedy that opens in its Black Box Theater on Halloween eve.

Watercolors in the Community Gallery

The Southwestern Watercolor Society's "Frisco Gallery Signature Exhibition" opens Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the center's Community Gallery and stays up through Jan. 8. The city's arts listing says the show features 22 of the society's signature members, all local artists, with original two-dimensional watercolors that range from landscapes to more detailed studies of people. Gallery hours on opening day are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Discovery Center is at 8004 N. Dallas Parkway.

'The Cottage' on stage

Theatre Frisco opens Sandy Rustin's comedy "The Cottage" on Friday, Oct. 30, for a run through Nov. 15 in the Black Box Theater, directed by Mikey Abrams. Set in an English country cottage in 1923, the play follows two lovers whose weekend comes apart when both of their spouses show up, followed by two more guests nobody expected.

Performances are scheduled for:

  • Oct. 30 and 31 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 6 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 7 and 8 at 2:30 p.m.
  • Nov. 13 at 8 p.m., Nov. 14 at 2:30 and 8 p.m., and Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m.

All tickets are $35. The production receives support from the City of Frisco's Arts Tourism Program, according to the city calendar.

More to come in November

The center's Grand Gallery gets "A Feeling Called Home" on Nov. 7, an immersive installation exploring what home means through memory, culture and personal experience. Artists Marina Shterenberg and Gaurii S Kumaar are creating the installation and performance pieces with the city's public art team, and it runs through Jan. 30.

Across town, the city's Art in the Atrium 26 show, which fills five floors of the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center with work chosen from public submissions by the Arts and Culture Advisory Board, holds a free public reception Monday, Nov. 2, from 7 to 8 p.m. at 6101 Frisco Square Blvd. That exhibit is on display through Feb. 1.
