Houston Astros overcame a deficit to defeat the Kansas City Royals 8-7 on Saturday at Kauffman Stadium. The decisive moment arrived in the ninth inning when Alex Bregman’s ground ball resulted in a fielder’s choice that allowed Loperfido to score, pushing the Astros ahead 8-7 after the game had been tied at 7-7 entering the final frame.

The contest featured significant offensive production from both sides, highlighted by a combined five home runs. The Royals took an early lead, scoring in the second and third innings. Massey singled to right to drive in Caglianone, followed by a three-run surge in the third. Pasquantino singled to center to score Jensen, and Witt Jr. crossed the plate twice on passed balls by Astros catcher Vazquez, giving Kansas City a 3-0 advantage.

Home Runs Shift Momentum

Houston responded in the fourth inning with back-to-back power hits. Walker launched a 394-foot home run to left, scoring Alvarez to cut the deficit to 2-3. Thomas immediately followed with a 432-foot homer to left center, tying the game at 3-3.

The Astros seized control in the fifth and sixth innings. Matthews homered 434 feet to center in the fifth, scoring Meyers to make it 4-3. In the sixth, Meyers added another solo shot, a 419-foot blast to left center, extending Houston’s lead to 5-4. However, the Royals answered immediately in the same inning with a three-run double by Jensen to center, scoring Perez, Thomas, and Massey to reclaim the lead at 7-5.

Pitching Performance and Final Outcomes

The game remained tight until the eighth inning. Altuve homered 407 feet to left, scoring Paredes to tie the score at 7-7. The Astros’ bullpen then held the line. Mike Burrows started for Houston, pitching five innings and allowing four earned runs. Enyel De Los Santos struggled in relief, giving up two earned runs in 0.1 innings. Alimber Santa pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, followed by Bryan King, who earned the win by pitching a perfect inning. Bryan Abreu closed the game with a scoreless ninth, recording his fifth save.

For Kansas City, Noah Cameron took the loss after allowing four earned runs in 4.1 innings. John Schreiber and Daniel Lynch IV provided relief, while Matt Strahm allowed two earned runs in 0.1 innings. Alex Lange pitched 1.2 innings to take the loss.

The final attendance at Kauffman Stadium was 17,881. Following the game, the Houston Astros improved to 33-39, while the Kansas City Royals fell to 28-43.
