Aidan Curry delivered a dominant pitching performance for the Double-A Frisco Riders, striking out 11 batters in a win against Midland. The 23-year-old right-hander threw 5.2 innings during his sixth start with the team, setting a new season high for strikeouts in a single game. The outing occurred earlier this week, following a promotion from a lower level just before the end of May.
This result capped a strong month for Curry, who had struggled in his initial appearance with Frisco. His first start on May 26 against Arkansas was difficult; he allowed six hits, seven earned runs, and four walks while giving up a home run in just three innings. That performance left him with a 21.00 earned run average at the Double-A level.
Curry gradually stabilized his performance throughout June. After surrendering six earned runs in his second start on June 2, he reduced the total to three earned runs in a four-run outing on June 9. He continued to tighten his control, allowing two earned runs on June 16, three on June 23, and two in his final start of the month on June 30.
Over five starts in June, Curry posted a 2-1 record with a 5.14 ERA. He struck out 34 batters and walked eight across 28 innings, holding opponents to a .236 batting average. Notably, he pitched at least five innings in each of his last four starts, including two outings of at least six innings. Prior to joining Frisco, he had only made two starts at High-A Hub City that lasted five or more innings.
The organization appears to be giving Curry more opportunities to build stamina as a starter. Curry, a native of Ossining, New York, was signed by the Rangers out of Fordham Prep in 2020. The draft was limited to five rounds due to the pandemic, and he did not play professionally that year. He began his pro career in 2021 and has spent five years in the system before this first call-up to Frisco.
