HCL Technologies Ltd has secured a $1.14 billion IT services contract with a Fortune Global 50 company headquartered in Europe, ending a three-year period without a mega deal for the firm. This agreement represents the first billion-dollar IT services contract announced by an Indian technology provider in fiscal year 2027. It is also only the fourth contract exceeding one billion dollars secured by the Indian IT sector since January 2024.

The five-year agreement runs from July 2026 through December 2031, with an option to extend for an additional five years. HCLTech estimates the contract will generate approximately $228 million in annual revenue. Analysts project this deal could contribute roughly 1.6% to the company’s revenue growth for fiscal year 2027. The entire value of the order constitutes new business, marking one of the largest contract wins for the company in recent years.

Under the terms of the agreement, HCLTech will develop an AI-driven operating model for the client’s global digital workplace and enterprise network. The win marks the first billion-dollar deal for HCLTech since 2019, when it secured a $1.3 billion IT outsourcing agreement with Xerox. It is also the third mega deal won under Chief Executive Officer C Vijayakumar, who has led the company since October 2016.

The contract highlights a recent revival in large outsourcing deals among major Indian IT firms. In October of the previous year, Infosys secured a $1.6 billion, 15-year IT modernization contract with the UK's National Health Service. Two months later, Tata Consultancy Services won a deal worth more than $1 billion over 10 years from Telefónica UK. TCS had previously secured a 15-year, $2.5 billion contract with Aviva in January 2024. Mid-sized provider Coforge also entered the category of mega deals with a 13-year, $1.56 billion agreement with Sabre Corp.

The announcement reinforces HCLTech’s strategic focus on artificial intelligence as enterprises increasingly pursue AI-led transformation. Days prior to the contract announcement, HCLTech disclosed an investment of Rs 1,427 crore, approximately $150 million, in AI startup Sarvam AI to acquire a 10.46% stake. This investment supports the company’s strategy to strengthen AI capabilities as customer adoption accelerates.

The large contract provides increased revenue visibility for HCLTech. For fiscal year 2027, the company has guided for revenue growth between 1% and 4%. Management cautioned that this outlook includes a 50-basis-point impact from client-specific issues and a 2% to 3% impact from AI-led pricing deflation. The broader impact of AI on the company’s business is expected to be mixed.

HCL Technologies Ltd is one of Frisco's largest employers, with about 1,500 local employees, according to local government records.
