The Dallas Cowboys have officially signed veteran linebacker Von Miller, a DeSoto, TX native, who confirmed he had been in discussions with the team prior to the start of training camp. Miller, entering his 15th NFL season, aims to enhance the Cowboys' defense, particularly in pass protection, as he brings with him an impressive total of 138.5 career sacks, leading the league among active players.

Miller's addition to the team creates competition at the edge rusher position, which could jeopardize the roster spots of several players. He has primarily played as a left outside linebacker in recent seasons, a role expected to be filled by him under defensive coordinator Christian Parker during passing situations.

Currently, Rashan Gary, who was acquired in a trade this spring, is the starting left outside linebacker, while rookie Malachi Lawrence has also been training at that position.

On the right side, second-year player Donovan Ezeiruaku is set to take on the role of right outside linebacker, with James Houston expected to serve as a key rotational player. This leaves limited opportunities for Sam Williams and Marist Liufau, who are competing for the same position and must demonstrate their value to secure a place on the 53-man roster.

Liufau, in particular, may have trade value, as he has shown potential as an inside linebacker with blitzing capabilities. The Cowboys also have other players like Tyrus Wheat, Isaiah Land, and Adedayo Odeleye in consideration, with 17 practice squad slots available for promising candidates.

While the immediate impact of Miller's signing is likely to affect players in the edge rusher group, further details regarding roster adjustments have not yet been clarified.
